Convivencia Invierno
Art By Amy Fagin
Description
The Convivencia Series Ketubot are in exploration and celebration of the era of Convivencia (co-existence) of Jews, Muslims and Christians on the Iberian peninsula from 711 to 1492. The series composition utilizes the 8 pointed star as the nexus for the making of a covenant and a joining together of bodies and souls of two individuals, that marriage represents. In the silence of winter the conception and gestation of a newborn spring is patiently abiding through the inky darkness and mystery of the season. Blazing secretly in the depths of darkness is the certainty that the light of the sun will return and that life on earth will renew. Jews world over, around the time of the winter solstice light a new candle every night for the 8 nights of Hannukah, and in honor of Jewish history, spiritual renewal, and the promise of a world united in peace. This spectacular ketubah illumination captures the energy of darkness transforming to light, and the essence of creation itself in its conception. Celebrating the creation of the skies, heaven’s host and the enigmatic spirit of love abiding Convivencia Invierno radiates the Divine majesty of creation.
